The International Airport of Pisa (Aeroporto Internazionale di Pisa) is named after the renowned Italian scientist Galileo Galilei and is located just 3 miles (5 kilometers) from the city center. You can reach it by train or taxi.
Today, direct flights from across Europe arrive at Pisa Airport via low-cost carriers like Ryanair.com, Wizzair.com, and easyJet.com. Ticket prices are significantly lower than those to Rome, making Pisa an excellent arrival option. From Pisa, you can easily travel to Rome (see the guide), as well as Florence, Siena, Arezzo, and La Spezia. This article covers all transportation options in detail.
Special trains run from the airport to the center of Pisa, though taxis are also available for a direct ride to your hotel.

By Train
The ride from the airport to Pisa Centrale train station takes just 6 minutes and is especially fun for kids. The modern Pisa Mover shuttles are fully automated and driverless, with large panoramic windows. They run every 15 minutes from 4:30 AM to 1:30 AM.
A one-way ticket costs just €5 (about $5.40) and can be purchased at a kiosk inside the airport or from a machine next to the platform—this is the cheapest and easiest way to reach the city center.
By Taxi
Taxi fares from Pisa Airport are fixed but depend on your destination. A ride to Stazione di Pisa Centrale costs €9, while a trip to the Piazza del Duomo (Square of Miracles) is €12.
Keep in mind there are surcharges: €2.60 on weekends and €0.65 per luggage item.

Driving Yourself
You can pick up a pre-booked rental car right at the airport and set off on your own adventure through Italy’s charming, storybook towns. For example, a Volkswagen Polo-class vehicle can cost as little as €230 for 10 days—an option that’s far more cost-effective, faster, and more engaging than using public transit between small towns.
We recommend choosing providers rated 8 or higher. For car rental tips in Italy, visit en.italy4.me/road-trips/ .
To Florence
You can travel from Pisa Airport to Florence (Firenze) by direct bus for €14, by taxi for €160, or by train with a transfer at Pisa Centrale for €11.30. The total journey time is about 1.5 hours—see the detailed guide.
To Livorno
To reach the port of Livorno, a hub for cruise ships, you’ll need to transfer between trains and a bus. Regional Trenitalia trains run several times per hour from Pisa to Livorno Centrale station.
Tickets cost only €2.60 and the journey takes about 15 minutes. From the station, you can take the red LAM ROSSA or blue LAM BLU city bus lines to the port.
A more comfortable option is to book a private transfer in advance. A taxi for 2–4 people costs around €130 and takes you directly to your cruise ship at the port.
