It is fascinating to feel how people lived in such places long before us, and even now, but not monks anymore, but aristocrats. The house is located at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level – an area characterized by mild summers, during which the villa feels the natural coolness of the evening.

You can relax in the splendid Italian-style garden, and in summer around the large outdoor swimming pool. In early July, the air was filled with centuries-old linden blossoms. Everywhere around are stunning views, a beautiful park, and the scent of lavender in the air. In the morning, you wake up from birds chirping and the bells ringing.

In the morning, delicious homemade breakfasts await you in the garden. Rooms are furnished with antique furniture. Frescoes have been preserved on the walls of some halls, where you can walk. Besides, there is an opportunity to visit the cellars and taste local wine produced in the abbey.

Keep in mind that the concept of the farmhouse does not allow to have air conditioning in the rooms, but there is a fan. It doesn’t matter in cold weather, and for a short stay, it is pretty comfortable.

Which airport to fly to

To travel around Tuscany, flying to the airports of Pisa, Bologna, Genoa, or Rome is best.

Travel plan and cost

Let’s consider an approximate travel plan, trying to calculate the costs.

Car expenses

For example, we are landing at Pisa airport and renting a car for 10 days at www.rentalcars.com. We choose a good supplier with an average rating of reviews above 8.

Renaut Clio or a similar small car with manual transmission and unlimited mileage will cost 450 EUR.

Car rent in airport for a trip around Tuscany manual gearbox

You can take Volkswagen Golf or a similar medium car with automatic transmission; it will cost you 598 EUR. The choice is yours.

Price rent Volkswagen Golf in Pisa Airport

On average, you will drive 100-150 km per day, I don’t recommend doing more. Tuscany itself is stretched from north to south for about 300 km.

Let’s calculate to the maximum and with a margin: 2000 km in 10 days with average fuel consumption of 7 liters per 100 km and a liter price of 1.6 EUR, you will spend 7 × 1.6 × 20 = 224 EUR on fuel. Toll roads are rare on regional highways, but we will add another 50 EUR. In total, a car for 10 days and the fuel will cost about 400 EUR for a company of up to 4 people.

Food expenses

It is pretty challenging to predict food expenses – it depends on personal preferences. You can save money and cook on your own, and then you can meet 200-250 EUR for two per week. If you dine in restaurants, taste Tuscan wines, and indulge in nothing, I would lay down about 1000 EUR for two for a 10-day trip.

Living expenses

Living expenses are also individual. In the review above, I gave good options for 60 EUR per night, but the average cost of a room in farmhouses in Tuscany is 100 EUR.

I am sure that now your holiday in rural Tuscany will be unforgettable and inspire you to explore other regions of Italy, taking each of them as a different country! If you have any questions about choosing a farmhouse, I will be happy to answer your questions in the comments.
