Once my friends asked me to recommend a good hotel on the island of Sardinia (Sardegna) for a holiday with a child. Unfortunately, not every hotel has family rooms. Some are for adults (18+) only. However, Italy generally has excellent conditions for a family beach holiday. Below, I collected for you the best options to stay.

Hotel Cala Luna

The family Hotel Cala Luna is located on the waterfront of Cala Gonone, in the Gulf of Orosei, famous for its rocky coves and caves.

The boutique hotel offers 27 rooms, including comfortable quadruple rooms with a bright and comfortable design, and a furnished balcony/terrace. The beach is sandy with clear, calm waters, suitable for children to swim.

Good breakfasts are served on the sunny terrace, including homemade yogurts, Italian pies, croissants with and without sweet fillings, fruits, and excellent coffee. There is an air-conditioned dining room and a panoramic terrace for romantic dinners. The menu has a wide selection of Mediterranean and Sardinian dishes and the perfect wine.

A bar on the roof and a relaxation area with sofas and sun loungers. Within a 5-minute walk, there is a supermarket, souvenir shops, and cafes. Funicello gelateria makes delicious ice cream and milkshakes from natural ingredients. Children will love the small aquarium Acquario Cala Gonone.

Hotel Onda Marina

Hotel Onda Marina is located on the coast in the town of San Teodoro (San Teodoro), which is famous for its holidays, parties, and festivals.

The main asset of the hotel is the carefull staff, the magnificent view from the windows and the proximity to the popular La Cinta beach.

You have 9 categories of rooms to choose from. All of them are with modest interiors but at the same time clean, well-equipped, and with a balcony. In the mornings, a decent continental buffet breakfast is served with cheese and cold cuts, hot dishes, cereals, yogurts, pastries, jams, fruits, and juices. Free WiFi is available in the lobby. In addition, there is a small garden with a seating area and free parking.

You can dine at the nearby Verdeacqua or L’Olive pizzerias. I also recommend the La Cinta beach bar with pleasant service, where, in addition to classic snacks and drinks, there is a wide selection of meat and fish dishes. The waiter will help you to choose the right wine. If you have the opportunity, try Giunco Vermentino white wine with a beautiful aroma of tropical fruits and a lively taste.

Abbaidda Hotel

Abbaidda Hotel is located in the typical Sardinian village of La Muddizza, a 15-minute walk from the town of Valledoria in the province of Sassari.

The only drawback is some remoteness from the coast, but a free shuttle regularly runs to the sandy beach and the city.

A 4-story building represents the hotel has 39 spacious rooms and suites with pleasant interiors. It features a 24-hour front desk with a multilingual staff. On its territory, you will find a garden, a swimming pool with a jacuzzi, a gym, and a mini-football field. For children, there is a special menu, a children’s aqua zone, and board games. On the terrace overlooking the sea, you can enjoy breakfast.

The restaurant serves local and seafood specialties and has a vegetarian buffet. For dinner, I recommend Agriturismo Monte Istulargiu or Ristorante della Locanda Del Mare da Roberto. Be sure to take a trip to Castelsardo, one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Sardinia with a castle hill somewhat reminiscent of the French Mont Saint-Michel. Water Paradise water park is located in the same direction.

Hotel Simius Playa

Hotel Simius Playa is located 2 km from the center of the town of Villasimius.

The beach is wide, with clean white sand and a gentle entrance – just what you need for children. The hotel has a relaxed homely atmosphere, carefully maintained by attentive staff. There are 46 standard rooms and spacious, bright suites decorated in a Mediterranean style.

The compact territory is decorated with a tropical garden, a swimming pool, and shady paths framed by flower beds. Guests note the excellent breakfasts served on the outdoor terrace. The restaurant is famous for its authentic cuisine, commitment to the canons of Sardinian cuisine, and varied menu. The chef uses natural products from the hotel farm and freshly caught seafood.

An American bar with a decent selection of drinks is open during the day. Live music is played in the lobby in the evenings. You can work out in the fitness room or book a massage at the spa. I advise you to rent a car and drive along the coast, making stops in beautiful bays with wild beaches. Grab some delicious burgers and sandwiches from Sardigna street food outside the city center.

Hotel Villa Gemella

Dinner is served at a la carte restaurants: Asumari by the pool and Zinnibiri on the beach. The closest decent place to dine outside the hotel is the Barbagia Al Mare trattoria. Hotel Nautilus

There is a beautiful Jacaranda restaurant within walking distance (it’s strange that it still doesn’t have a Michelin star).

The wide beach stretches for 6 km. The sea floor is sandy and gently sloping, without holes, underwater currents, and jellyfish. There are playgrounds and shallow baths for children. Numerous beach cafes and bars offer fresh seafood, pizza, desserts, and local wine. It is possible to rent an ATV, a boat, a jet ski, boats, and yachts. Nearby is a summer theater where engaging performances take place. The natural park Molentargius (Molentargius-Saline) – a habitat for thousands of animals and birds, including rare pink flamingos – is nearby.

Hotel L’Esagono

Hotel L’Esagono is on the beach of Cala d’Ambra in the town of San Teodoro.

For sweet-tooth, I recommend the BM&V Gelateria Artigianale.

Hotel Villa Margherita

Families with children, romantic couples, and those looking for a relaxing holiday choose Hotel Villa Margherita.

It is located in the town of Golfo Aranci, which is famous for the picturesque rocky cape of Capo Figari and its location, convenient for exploring the famous resorts of the Emerald Coast.

The bar-restaurant on the ground floor is very popular among guests and visitors.

Sardinian and fish dishes, as well as the wine served, receive the most positive reviews. You can swim and sunbathe on the central beach (Spiaggia Centrale), surrounded by lush vegetation. If you get hungry while walking around the city, I recommend the Zio Pedrillo pizzeria, where they serve delicious, inexpensive pizza and more.
