In Trapani, there are three parking zones: A, B, and C, as well as a restricted traffic zone (ZTL), where tourists are not allowed to drive.
You can only park in areas marked with blue lines. Let’s look at an example of parking near the port of Trapani, in the most expensive zone, Zone C (Zona Rossa), where we usually leave our car before heading to Favignana Island.
Pay attention to the sign indicating that you cannot park between 5:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. from Monday to Thursday, as that’s when the street is cleaned. On other days, paid parking is typically in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., or sometimes until midnight.
The rate is €0.80 per hour or €0.50 for 30 minutes. Find a free spot and head to the nearest parking meter. It’s a good idea to have coins ready, as the machine does not give change. The process is simple — insert the coins, and the machine will display the time your payment covers.
For example, we parked at 9 a.m., and the return ferry from Favignana was scheduled to arrive at 3:40 p.m. I inserted €4, which covered parking until 4:00 p.m., since parking is free from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Press the green button, and the machine will print a payment confirmation, which you must place in a visible spot on your dashboard.
Now you know how to park in Trapani and in any other city in Italy.
