Taxi in Florence

Taxi In Florence

How much does a taxi cost in Florence and how to call a taxi? Let’s figure it out.

Since most of the sights are within walking distance, there is no need to use taxi services. Nevertheless, sometimes there are situations when you can’t do without a taxi, for example:

  1. You have heavy suitcases, and the hotel is far from Santa Maria Novella central station;
  2. You want to save energy for climbing Piazza Michelangelo, the most popular viewpoint.

Price: How Much Taxi Costs in Florence?

The cost of a taxi ride in Florence is fixed by special rates, but most often does not exceed 10 EUR.

  • Daytime pick-up price: 3.30 EUR on weekdays, 5.30 EUR on weekends and public holidays.
  • The fare per km is 0.98 EUR plus a trip cost of up to 7.40 EUR, which means that during the day, you can drive (7.40-3.30)/0.98=4.18 km.
  • Important! If you call a taxi to a specific address, for example, to a hotel, then the taxi driver starts the trip from the nearest official parking spot, and the meter is already running. Since there are many parking spots, most often there will be an amount of about 5 EUR on the counter.

Official taxi rates in Florence

For example, from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (La Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore) to the Michelangelo viewpoint, the distance on foot is 2 km, and by car – 4.4 km. A trip during the day should cost no more than 8 EUR, and on weekends shall not exceed 10 EUR! For longer distances within Florence, you will hardly have to travel.

From Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci Airport to the center of Florence, there is a basic flat rate of 22 EUR plus a luggage surcharge. For trips to other airports, cities, and outlets, I recommend ordering a transfer in advance – this will help to avoid unpleasant surprises and misunderstandings with taxi drivers.

Tariffs for Trips to Outlets

  • The Mall or Barberino “Mc Arthur Glen” outlets: 65 EUR one way, 120 EUR for a round trip (one hour of waiting included, for each additional hour +30 EUR).

Private Transfer to/from Florence Airport (FLR)

If you are arriving or departing from Florence airport, a private transfer is a more comfortable and reliable alternative to a taxi. The cost depends on the number of people. For example, for 2 people a private transfer costs 79 euros, and for 4 people 88 euros.

How to Order a Taxi by Yourself

When staying at a hotel, you can ask the front desk to call a taxi for you for a specific time. If you know Italian at a basic level, you can order a taxi by calling 4242 or 4390, using an Italian phone number.

The easiest way is to install a taxi app – www.apptaxi.it – in advance, which works in all major cities in Italy.

Where are the taxi spots located?

The taxi spots are located just opposite the Santa Maria Novella central station exit. In Florence, as in other cities in Italy, there is no way to stop a taxi by hand. The rest of the parking spots are mapped below:
