The best hotels in Siena, a city of students and one of the popular tourist destinations in the Tuscany region, are often located in old buildings with a rich history. That’s why the interiors look pretty pompous, while the price range for accommodation is from 90 to 380 EUR per night. In our reviews, we consider hotels with good reviews only.
Hotels in Siena are more about the atmosphere of the medieval town, in which the narrow “winding” streets and buildings with a long history are perfectly preserved. The owners saved the spirit of antiquity while providing guests with the necessary amenities: air conditioning, bath or shower, and free Wi-Fi. Note that WI-Fi in Italy, especially in villages and small towns, is very poor. And this is for the better. So you can at least relax from the hustle and bustle of modern life for a while.
Siena itself is famous for the dry red Chianti wine that is made in the region, and the summer festival of Palio, during which horse races and colorful processions take place through the Old Town.

B&B Il Corso
B&B Il Corso is appreciated by travelers for its excellent location, just 50 meters from Siena’s main square, Piazza del Campo.
A traditional Italian breakfast of fruit, sheep’s cheese, and fresh pastries is included in the price. Throughout the day, you can make your own coffee in the coffee machine or have tea. An outdoor terrace is at guests’ disposal.
Chianti & Pizza di Mister Pizza, where you can dine on pizza and a glass of Chianti, is a 3-minute walk away. The Italian restaurant La Locanda dei Tintori is located nearby as well.
Casatorre dei Leoni Dimora Storica
When choosing a Bed&Breakfast hotel Casatorre dei Leoni Dimora Storica, you should consider that it is inconvenient to get there by car: the parking is far away. But if you contact the owners in advance, they will pick you up.
The ancient building is located 150 meters from the City Museum (Palazzo Pubblico) and 500 meters from the majestic Duomo Cathedral (Duomo di Siena).
High ceilings with ancient beams and pieces of ancient walls with frescoes were left untouched during the renovation. All the rooms are well-equipped with air conditioning and a shower. The duplex apartments for 3 to 6 people have a kitchen with all cooking utensils and a refrigerator.
A standard Italian breakfast is served in the morning with cheese, fruit, pastries, juices, and an excellent cappuccino.
I recommend visiting the atmospheric place, marked by Michelin guides, La Taverna di San Giuseppe, which is 5 minutes on foot.
Palazzetto Rosso – Editor’s Choice
Palazzetto Rosso hotel is located about half a kilometer on foot to Siena Cathedral and the Basilica of San Domenico (Basilica Cateriniana Di S. Domenico), the same distance is to the semicircular Palazzo Chigi Saracini (Palazzo Chigi Saracini).
In a 13-century building, brickwork walls and wood-beamed ceilings are paired with colorful chairs and modern-style lamps. The interiors of this hotel are the result of the designer’s imagination. If you stay in more expensive rooms, you can admire the views through an open window directly from the bath.
For dinner, I advise you to go to the restaurant of southern Italian cuisine Mugolone, where you can try excellent risotto, pasta, black truffles, and other dishes.
Hotel Athena – Admiring the view of the Old Town
The 4-star Hotel Athena is suitable for car travelers and those who like long walks.
The hotel is in perfect harmony with natural elevations on a mountain behind the old walls of Siena. Moreover, the main sights are within walking distance: one of the highest towers in Italy, Torre del Mangia, is just a 7-minute walk away, and Siena Cathedral is a 6-minute walk.
The rooms with a capacity of 1 – 4 people are well-decorated – even the color scheme of the paintings matches the furniture and textiles.
On the top floor, there is a terrace with tables. It is nice to spend an evening there with a glass of Chianti, admiring the view of the Old Town, green hills with vineyards, and mountains in the distance.
Excellent breakfasts are included in the price and consist of muffins, croissants, scrambled eggs, various fruits, cheeses, sausages, and coffee. You can also dine in the restaurant, which serves Tuscan cuisine.
The staff offers guided tours of the Chianti and Brunello regions, famous for their wines.
Domus Nannini SPA – Luxury Stay in Historic Center
Domus Nannini SPA — Palazzo Nannini is a classic and elegant apartment in the heart of Siena’s historic center.
The central square of Piazza del Campo is 4 minutes at a leisurely pace, and the oldest bank in the world, Monte dei Paschi di Siena on Piazza Salimbeni, is opposite.
Luxurious furniture, crystal chandeliers, frescoes on the walls and ceiling, parquet floors, and a magnificent city view make this place attractive to tourists. After a long day, you can relax in marble baths, jacuzzis, and private spas, including a sauna and Turkish bath.
The apartments have a spacious kitchen with everything you might need for cooking. Tea, milk and juices, cakes and biscuits are included in the price, so you can have this for breakfast, not wasting time cooking.
I recommend having lunch or dinner at Osteria Il Grattacielo, a 2-minute walk from the apartments. Here you can enjoy simple, homemade, but delicious Italian food.
Hotel Certosa Di Maggiano – Surrounded by Vineyards and Olive Trees
The 4-star Hotel Certosa Di Maggiano is a former 14th-century monastery on the outskirts of Siena, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees.
The atmosphere of this place is made up of the aromas of Tuscan gardens, the taste of spring water, and calm evenings in an old library, where the fringe of the lampshade hanging over the table creates soft lighting.
The elegant rooms for 2-4 people have everything you need for a good rest: beautiful antique furniture, marble bathrooms, and large soft beds.
A continental breakfast with various fruits, pastries, cereals, milk, and juices is served in the ancient colonnade or in the antique kitchen.
Grand Hotel Continental
The 5-star Grand Hotel Continental is one of those that form the atmosphere on a journey.
It is located in the pedestrian zone of the Old Town in a building that is over three hundred years old. Torre del Mangia is a 4-minute walk.
Frescoes on the walls, paintings on the ceiling, columns, stucco, arches, and bas-reliefs make you feel like you are not in a hotel but a museum.
The rooms are very bright due to the huge windows overlooking the city, and the deluxe rooms on the top floor have a rooftop terrace. The bathrooms offer elite Etro cosmetics.
During the day, you can enjoy wine from the hotel’s cellar and dine at the Tuscan restaurant Sapordivino, located on-site.
Villa Bonelli
Villa Bonelli, one and a half kilometers from the center of Siena, has access to a small garden with wicker furniture and gazebos, where it is so nice to hide from the summer heat.
The air is filled with the scent of roses and petunias, which grow in numerous flowerpots on the territory.
The spacious, bright apartments have a seating area and a well-equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher and washing machine. Welcoming prosecco, delicious cookies, and chocolate are waiting for you at the check-in.
A 15-minute walk and you are at the Old Town.
Palazzo Ravizza
The 3-star Palazzo Ravizza used to be the home of local aristocrats and, since 1922, has been functioning as a guest house.
It is located in the central area of the city, a 4-minute walk from the Palazzo Venturi Gallerani and a 7-minute walk from the Civic Museum.
Old buildings and green hills can be seen from the large windows with shutters. Deluxe rooms are decorated with columns and ceiling paintings. Some have balconies.
It has a small garden with a fountain where you can read, chat or just relax with a glass of wine while watching the sunset in the hills around Siena.
The continental breakfast is included in the rate and is served outside during the summer.
