The last month of winter in Italy is a whirlwind of fun, smiles, dancing, and competitions brought by one of the most popular carnivals, not just in the land of sun and wine, but worldwide.

The Venice Carnival attracts thousands of tourists each year, eager to immerse themselves in the incredible festive and fairy-tale atmosphere. It’s one of the most anticipated events of the year, not only for Venice but for all of Italy.

Venice Carnival
During the carnival, in one of the most romantic cities in the world, you might encounter a glamorous dandy in a luxurious, colorful costume or a businessman distinguished by a mask, not a briefcase.

The date of this unique event changes from year to year, directly depending on Ash Wednesday, one of the holidays of the Catholic Church, which is determined annually.

According to tradition, the Venice Carnival begins 12 days before Ash Wednesday—the day when Lent begins for believers, lasting for 45 days.

Venice Mask
The day gets its name from an ancient rite in which the heads of penitents were sprinkled with ashes as a sign of forgiveness of sins, with the priest saying, “From dust you came, and to dust, you shall return.”

In 2025, the Venice Carnival will take place from February 14 to March 4.

Now is the time to learn all the details and book your ticket to the magical city on the water. What awaits Venetians and visitors?
