By direct high-speed train to Florence from Milan

The high-speed ItaloTreno trains from Milan to Florence leave every hour from Milano Centrale.

If you are planning a trip to Florence for just one day, then I advise you to leave at 7:35 a.m. or 8:35 a.m. In 1 hour and 50 minutes, you will be at Florence Central Station (Firenze Santa Maria Novella).

Prices for the first class (Prima) tickets start at 25 EUR. The second class, which is also quite comfortable, costs 18 EUR one-way.

How to Get from Milan to Florence

 

The bus arrives at Villa Costanza stop in Florence. Then, it takes about 33 minutes to get, for example, to the Duomo Cathedral (La Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore). Take tram line T 1.3 in the direction of Careggi-Ospedale. In 13 stops, get off at Alamanni – Stazione – this is practically the center of the city, from where you can start exploring the city.

By car

It takes minimum 4 hours to get from Milan to Florence by car. Be sure to read about parking in Florence to avoid trouble and fines. Of the interesting routes, I would recommend 2 options:

  1. Milan – Parma – Modena – Bologna – Florence (ideal trip for 2-4 days)
  2. Milan – Genoa – along the Ligurian coast – we park in La Spezia – we go by train through the tunnel to the Cinque Terre national park (Cinque Terre) – Lucca – Pisa – Montecatini Terme – Florence (ideal trip for 3-7 days)

You can rent a car upon arrival at Malpensa (Aeroporto di Milano-Malpensa) or Bergamo (Aeroporto di Bergamo-Orio al Serio) airports.
