What you should know about Venice (Venezia), firstly this is a city on the water – the most expensive and popular one in Italy. Secondly, there are no free parking lots. Piazzale Roma is located near the central station Venezia Santa Lucia – this is the farthest piece of land you can reach by car, then – water.
In fact, it is constantly overcrowded, I advise you to book a lot online on their official website www.garagesanmarco.it at least a couple of days before arrival. The cost for cars is 45 EUR for 24 hours, for minivans – 60 EUR, motorcycles – 15 EUR.
If you are coming to Venice for one day, a cheaper option is to leave your car at Parcheggio Gregory (23 Viale Stazione, 30175 Venezia VE) near Mestre station (Venezia Mestre). Here hourly rates are available: parking costs 12 EUR for up to 6 hours.
At Mestre station, buy a ticket for 1.45 EUR from a machine for a regional train to Venezia Santa Lucia and in 12 minutes you will be in Venice. Trains run almost every 10-15 minutes.
As you see, parking in Venice might be tricky due to the geographical peculiarities of the city. While visiting Venice, the most convenient way to get around the city is by using Vaporetto water trams.
