Here are my tips and an overview of the best hostels in Milan where you can spend the night cheaply and comfortably:

Combo Milano
Combo Milano is a 4-storey hostel on Ripa di Porta Ticinese in the romantic Navigli area. Porta Genova metro station is 5 minutes away, the famous Duomo Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) is 15-20 minutes, and the Museum of Culture Mudec (Museo delle Culture Mudec) is a 6-minutes walk.
Rooms for 3 to 6 people have bunk or regular beds with a personal lamp, hooks for clothes/bags, a shelf for small items, and lockers. There is a hairdryer in the shower. The hostel is suitable for young travelers and couples with children, as there are family rooms.
In summer, you can relax in the green courtyard, and in nasty weather, read a book or chat with friends on comfortable sofas in the common area with huge windows.
There is a laundry room: washing and drying for 8 EUR, a conference room, a bar and a restaurant where live music is played in the evenings, and you can drink champagne.
Breakfast is included in the price and consists of coffee, juice, croissant, and yogurt. A small market is nearby, and a grocery store is 200 meters away.
I recommend visiting Il Secco, a wine bar that specializes in sparkling wines.
Babila Hostel & Bistrot
Babila Hostel & Bistrot is the perfect place for sports and music lovers. The Duomo Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) and La Scala Theater (Teatro alla Scala) are 15 minutes away. The Milan Conservatory (Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppe Verdi”) is on the same street. San Babila Metro Station is 750 meters away.
Behind the brick walls of an ancient building with lancet windows, you suddenly find a modern minimalist design. Large 4-6-bed rooms have bunk beds with a USB port and a reading light. Family rooms are available as well. Children and adults will be happy to play table hockey or tennis, do yoga or use the fitness equipment in the equipped room.
In the lobby, you can relax by a real fireplace on pear chairs. You can listen to live music in the evenings and drink something refreshing. You will get a voucher for a free drink upon check-in.
There is a terrace upstairs, where the music from the records on the old turntable also plays.
A complimentary breakfast is offered: pies, toast with jam or honey, coffee, cheese and ham, honey, juices, muesli, and fruits. Nearby there are Auchan and Carrefour supermarkets.
Pave-Gelati e Granite and the Miscusi restaurant, one of the best Milan galleries, are a 5-6 minute walk away.
Atmos Luxe Navigli
At Via Privata P Cezanne in the historic Navigli district, Atmos Luxe Navigli welcomes guests and is 700 meters away from Romolo metro station.
It is suitable for lovers of leisurely walks through the park and canals, and at the same time see the sights: the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (Chiesa e Convento Domenicano di Santa Maria delle Grazie) is in the 20-minutes walk. In half an hour, you will find yourself at Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco) of Porta Ticinese in 12 minutes.
The hostel has 4- and 6-bed dorms with tables or rooms with a double bed and seating area. The bathroom has a massage shower. The toilet is equipped with handrails for guests with disabilities.
Wide sofas with cushions in the recreation area and a balcony overlooking the park on the upper floors.
For a 5 EUR breakfast, you can count on croissants, fruits, pies, coffee, and yogurts. In addition, complimentary tea and biscuits are available. Mercato della Darsena market is 500 meters away.
Try the homemade Sicilian ice cream at Na ‘Ranita gelateria and have lunch or dinner at Magentino Italian cuisine cafe with simple but delicious food.
Queen Hostel
QUO Milano, on Viale Regina Margherita, is easily accessible from the airports by public transport.
The city center, where the Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) and the Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale Milano) are 15-20 minutes away. There is a tram stop right next to the railway station, 10 minutes from the metro.
The lounge area (it’s also a bar with a large selection of cocktails) is full of people in the evenings. The atmosphere is lively and friendly: someone fights at table football or billiards, others play the guitar or sing karaoke – even a solo traveler will not be lonely. The staff quickly solves all problems.
In the spacious shared kitchen, you can prepare lunch and dinner using products from a supermarket which you can find 300 meters from the hostel. Breakfast is included in the price: cheese, jam, toast and biscuits, tea/coffee, and fruits.
Nearby are the budget Pizzeria Snuppi with the proper Italian pizza and GluFree Bakery with a variety of fresh pastries.
Madama Hostel & Bistrot
The beautiful old building ofMadama Hostel & Bistrot on Via Benaco is located in a quiet area.
Lodi metro station is 300 meters away, and it takes 15 minutes to get to the center. The Fratelli Bonvini Milano Art Gallery is a 4-minute walk, and the Chiesa di San Luigi Gonzaga Church is a 2-minute walk.
One can pay cash for accommodation in rooms for 2 to 8 beds. The interior is funny: there are unusual paintings on the walls, and a shelf for phones is made from a tin can. All amenities (a personal socket, a USB port, towels, etc.) cost 3 EUR. However, despite their restaurant, you will hardly be bothered by the noise.
Young people gather in the recreation area in the evenings, where one can sing karaoke or play board games.
The minimal price is 29 EUR per night. It includes not only breakfasts, consisting of tea/coffee, croissants, cheese, sausages, eggs, cereals, yogurt, fruits, and juices, but also dinners, including salad, meat dishes with a side dish, and dessert. Those who wish can cook in the shared kitchen. A cheese shop is in the building next door, and The White Flag craft pub is across the road.
For lunch, I advise you to go to the Italian restaurant Osteria Tajoli with reasonable prices or Il Delfino restaurant, beloved by the locals, with delicious seafood.
Ostelzzz Milano
Ostelzzz Milano is on Via Giorgio Jan, a 17-minute walk from the Quadrilatero della Moda and very close to Corso Buenos Aires shopping street.
A house museum of the Casa Museo Boschi di Stefano family of artists is 3 minutes away. The nearest metro station, ‘Lima,’ is 4 minutes away, and the central railway station (Milano Centrale) is 12 minutes away. The city center is a 20-minute walk.
Strict blue and white tones and the privacy of individual capsules will appeal to introverts and silence lovers. The capsules with single and double beds are spacious; there is a mirror and a locker. However, if you plan to use the locker, bring it with you. There is a clothes hanger. You rarely meet your neighbors, but if you wish, you can sit in the shared room or on the terrace.
The price for a room starts from 48 EUR per night and includes breakfast: coffee/tea, juice or milk, and sandwiches. The choice of fruits for the hostel is excellent: kiwi, apples, grapes, and nectarines.
A large sign can be seen from afar, even in the dark. In the evening, you can enjoy a delicious pizza at the Focaccerie Genovesi or a cocktail at theDrinc. Cocktail & Conversation.
Ostello Bello
Ostello Bello is a four-story hostel located on via Medici street in the center of Milan. The Duomo Cathedral (Duomo di Milano) is a 10-minute walk, 5 minutes from the Duomo and Missori metro stations.
In rooms for 2 to 8 people, you will find one- and two-story beds with personal lamps, luggage boxes with a free lock.
The zone for lovers of communication is entertainingly designed: many books and antique furniture. Everything is of bright colors and lively, you can play the guitar or piano. On the upper floors are two terraces with hammocks and colorful furniture decorated with flowers. There are concerts in the bar on the ground floor in the evening, but the noise hardly reaches the rooms. You can also join a free guided tour in English during the day.
They serve muesli, eggs, yogurts, juices, milk, and fried rice/noodles for breakfast. Dinners consist of two types of pasta, lasagna, salad, and fresh herbs are included in the price, and you can dine at the hotel for 8 EUR. Besides, you will have free access to various fruits, tea/coffee, and cookies. In addition, the kitchen has a lot of free food.
I recommend visiting the POMET by Pasquale Palmetto restaurant with designer pizza or the super-popular Nerino Dieci Trattoria,where you need to book a place in advance.
Ostello Bello Grande
Almost the twin brother of the above-mentioned Ostello Bello is Ostello Bello Grande — located 200 meters from the railway station on Via Roberto Lepetit. The nearest metro station, Caiazzo, is 300 meters away. The Museo Civico di Storia Naturale is 1,4 km away.
The hostel has 2-, 3- and 4-bed family rooms and dormitory rooms for 4 to 6 beds with bunk and three bunk beds. Individual lamps, sockets, and shelves – everything is organized for a comfortable stay. Grape-covered terraces on the upper floors and balconies with flower pots in the double rooms make your stay in the hostel exceptionally cozy.
Like in Ostello Bello, Ostello Bello Grande offers free dinners, breakfasts, and kitchen utensils. However, the food is more varied here.
The friendly atmosphere and incendiary music in the shared area bar beckon you to stay in the hostel for the whole evening. But if you want to go out into the city, I can recommend nearby restaurants:Terra Gelato with delicious ice cream and desserts and the Chinese restaurantMU Dimsum.
